Working in a multidisciplinary team (MDT) environment, the full-time Child Forensic Services Specialist serves as the primary child forensic interviewer for the City of Charlottesville and Albemarle County and the backup interviewer for the surrounding localities. The primary responsibilities of this position are to: (1) conduct developmentally and culturally appropriate, evidence-based forensic interviews of children and adolescents who are alleged victims of criminal maltreatment; (2) serve as an active, contributing member of the Charlottesville and Albemarle MDT, including organizing and managing the forensic interviewer peer review program; (3) serve as an active, contributing member of MDTs in surrounding counties as required; (4) coordinate the Stand Up for Kids! mandated reporter public education program; and (5) serve as the staff member primarily responsible for entering data in the NCAtrak case management software. The ideal candidate welcomes a team atmosphere where everyone works together to serve child victims and their families in the best possible way.The mission of Foothills Child Advocacy Center is to provide a coordinated system of effective response and intervention to children who have been victimized and to their families. Our goals are to minimize trauma, promote healing, and ensure child safety. The primary goals of the forensic assessment program are to reduce trauma for children who are alleged victims of maltreatment by providing legally sound, developmentally appropriate child forensic interviews that reduce the number of times a child is interviewed and assist in the gathering of accurate information to inform the investigative and treatment process.This position is a grant-funded position and reports directly to the Program Coordinator. We offer a highly competitive salary and generous benefits. Salary range is from $47,500 to $57,500, depending on experience. Qualifications and Skills Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, counseling, social work, or a related field from an accredited university required; a master's degree in social work, criminal justice, or a related field preferred. Previous training in one or more nationally-recognized, evidence-based forensic interview models/protocols (NCAC, NICHD, ChildFirst, APSAC, Cornerhouse) required; ChildFirst preferred A minimum of one (1) year experience conducting forensic interviews of children in response to allegations of sexual abuse and severe physical abuse required; previous experience in a children's advocacy center, child protection, or working with a multidisciplinary child abuse team preferred. Knowledge of child development, specifically stages in cognitive, physical, moral, and emotional developmental stages. Sensitivity to the needs and welfare of children and caregivers who have experienced physical and/or sexual maltreatment. Ability to work effectively under stressful conditions, while demonstrating discretion and good judgment in handling confidential matters and sensitive information. Attention to detail with the ability to maintain detailed case records and other documentation. Ability to present engaging, interactive training to staff at youth-serving organizations and the general public. Ability to work with community organizations to promote, schedule, and present training. Spanish fluency and ability to interpret is a plus. Additional Information Schedule is based on the needs of clients and MDT; flexibility is required. Some evenings are required. Some travel to surrounding counties is required.
