Job Description: An established engineering firm has an immediate opening in its Virginia Beach office for a Program Manager. This manager will be responsible for managing Design tasks and will perform various engineering, technical, and management services and studies for various customers. This position requires knowledge and understanding of the principles of management, administrative experience, and a detailed understanding of design, work plan development, and drawing development for construction/conversion/modernization of ships. Job Requirements/skill sets: Candidate will be required to manage a team of supervisors, designers and drafters that utilize CAD products. Ensure the drawings and designs are completed on time and adhere to the established specifications and standards the customer requires. Must be able to project schedules, bids and proposals, and enforce all design project related milestones/goals are met and adhere to approved budgets. Requires extensive knowledge in ship check, design and drawing development process.Specialized Experience Requirements in area of assigned cognizance: Creditable experience includes: Familiarity with the responsibility for preparation of and modification and development of engineering drawings using industry software (ACAD, Office, etc.) with knowledge and experience working with Technical Specification 9090-600, 9090-100, 9090-310, General Specification for Overhaul S9AA0-AB-GOS-010/GSO, and NAVSEA Standard Items. Expert knowledge in the process of engineering investigations to gather data for use in plan preparation, engineering reports, test agenda and Design drafting; involving judgment in recommending alternative designs or materials and in planning or conceiving engineering systems, structures, machinery, electrical or electronic installations in order to satisfy performance, economy, safety, size, strength, durability and maintainability factors. Awareness of the process required for making necessary calculations, diagrams, and analysis to develop plans, reports and for the review and checking of engineering drawings for completeness, adequacy, and compliance with instructions and appropriate standards and specifications. Familiarity with the technical responsibility for workability, economy of design, and a good background knowledge of new practices relative to manufacturing and shipboard installation techniques. Naval progressive design experience in the Naval Ship design field within the last five (15) years involving design and working plan development for construction, conversion, modernization or alteration of U.S. Naval Ships (does not include maritime ship design) in the specialty required herein. Ability to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States. Education: A Bachelor’s degree in area of specialty or equivalent experience; Candidate must be graduates of a high school, trade or industrial school, or correspondence school where, as a minimum, credits were received in all of the following: algebra, plane geometry, trigonometry, drafting and physics. Completion of 18 semester credits of formal education in an engineering related curriculum above the high school level such as calculus, physics, metallurgy, structures, IC circuits, etc., may be substituted for one year of general work experience. Security Requirements: U.S. citizenship required. Must meet and maintain eligibility for U.S. Secret Clearance and be able to access military facilities, naval shipyards, and private shipyards.
