Position: Payroll Specialist Location/Department: Richmond Headquarters/Human Resources Status: Full Time Salaried/Non-Exempt Universal Leaf Tobacco Company, Inc. (Universal) is seeking an experienced payroll professional to assume the role of Payroll Specialist in its office located in Richmond, Virginia. Our Company Universal is headquartered in Richmond, Virginia, and is the leading global leaf tobacco supplier. Tobacco sourcing and processing has been the Company's principal focus since its founding in 1918. The largest portion of the Company's business involves procuring and processing flue-cured, burley, and dark air-cured leaf tobacco for manufacturers of consumer tobacco products. Today, we are a global business-to-business agri-products supplier to consumer product manufacturers, that sources and processes leaf tobacco and plant-based ingredients. Through our plant-based ingredients platform, we provide a variety of value-added manufacturing processes to produce high-quality, specialty vegetable- and fruit-based ingredients as well as botanical extracts and flavorings for human and pet food end markets. Universal conducts business in more than 30 countries on five continents and employs over 25,000 permanent and seasonal workers. For more information on Universal, visit our website at www.universalcorp.com Job Duties and Responsibilities This position will be a key resource in the accurate and timely processing of payroll for all employees. The Payroll Specialist will work with the Human Resources Department and various members of other departments on a regular basis. The position will include but will not be limited to the following responsibilities: Verify accuracy and process payroll on multiple cycles: Hourly Payroll - Weekly Salary Payroll - Semi-Monthly Deferred Income Plan - Monthly Annual Incentive Plan - Annually Off-cycle payrolls, including any special, manual, or void payments Process and maintain accurate payroll information for all employees including new hires, terminations, transfers, and changes in pay and deductions Assist with employee and management inquiries related to payroll Assist in the implementation and maintenance of payroll systems and processes Collaborate with other departments and outside agencies to provide documentation and reports Provide payroll system support and troubleshoot issues with various departments and outside agencies Respond to unemployment claims and bank notifications, such as ACH returns Performs a variety of tasks as assigned Experience, Knowledge, and Skill Requirements: Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll administration Proficient in using payroll software and systems Familiarity with accounting and financial concepts Proficient in working with large amounts of data, ensuring data integrity, and the ability to handle confidential information Motivated self-starter with a willingness to learn and demonstrated ability to be successful whether working independently or in a team environment Possess the ability to think analytically with attention to detail. Ability to use sound judgment and solid decision-making skills and the ability to prioritize and multi-task. Ability to deal with ambiguity and be able to efficiently manage time and tasks with minimal supervision. Superior written and verbal communication skills Collaborative work style with the ability to think creatively and resolve ongoing complex issues Excellent organizational skills Preferred Qualifications Experience with multiple HRIS systems is preferred (Infinisource HR Systems is a plus) Experience with running HRIS reports is strongly preferred Experience with the implementation of a new payroll system is a plus Human Resources experience is a plus Education Bachelor's degree preferred in accounting, business administration, or a related field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
