Virginia Health Services is hiring an Accounts Payable Specialist for our Corporate Team located in Newport News, VA! The Accounts Payable Specialist processes the accounts payable for the business office under the supervision of the Controller. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Monitor/maintain centralized A/P Inbox Assemble, review and verify invoices and check requests Flag and clarify any unusual or questionable invoice items or prices Review all invoices/payment requests for appropriate documentation and approvals prior to processing Code invoices, vouchers, check requests with appropriate general ledger expense account Enter invoices into AP system Prepare and process check runs and ACH payments. Post transactions to journals, ledgers and other records. Reconcile vendor accounts monthly Correspond with internal/external staff members and suppliers and respond to inquiries. Maintain vendor files/documentation in accordance to company policy. Must possess thorough understanding of Balance Sheet, profit and loss accounts and appropriate (debit / credit) entries Maintain confidentiality of organizational information. Assist in month/year-end closing. Provide supporting documentation for audits. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to perform the above stated essential duties and responsibilities. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, mainly Excel. Must be able to learn other accounting software systems. Understands compliance issues around accounts payable processes (W-9, sales tax, etc.) Excellent written and verbal communication skills with vendors and company team members Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy Excellent organizational and planning skills to meet strict deadlines A minimum of three years computerized accounts payable processing experience. Associates Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance, or accounting coursework preferred Ability to work independently as well as part of a team and prioritize tasks. OTHER SPECIFICATIONS: 30 day working notice is required for voluntary termination of employment. Hourly (Non-Exempt) Not eligible for shift or weekend differential Why join Virginia Health Services?
