Finance Technician / Payroll

Description:
Duties and Responsibilities 1. Responsible for all activities involved with the operation of the employee payroll system to include ensuring all account records are maintained in an accurate, up-to-date, and efficient manner;2. Accountable for the accuracy of bank deposits and ensuring that all account records are in balance with the respective bank account;3. Performs daily audits of accounts to verify correctness of account balances;4. Coordinates transfer of funds to checking account;5. Prepares checks for signatures by two signing officials;6. Properly assign account codes to all facility expenditure transactions;7. Ensures posting of checks to the appropriate check register and using the appropriate account code;8. Processes vendor invoices utilizing established Caroline Detention Facility procedures;9. Maintains other bank accounts as directed by the Superintendent;10. Assists with activities associated with detainee accounts;11. Serves as backup to the Accounts Payable Technician;12. Performs other duties as assigned. Education/Experience 1. High School Diploma or equivalent, Associates Degree preferred;2. Three years of bookkeeping and payroll experience, preferably in a municipal setting;3. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be substituted for above.4. Proficiency with automated accounting systems; experience with VRS a plus5. Excel experience preferred. Licenses and Certificates 1. Valid Virginia Driver's License.
